Swine Flu Protection

In response to the number of confirmed human-to-human transmission of H1N1 flu, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised its alert to level 6. The alert level references the spread of the virus from country to country – and not about the severity of the disease.

Level 6 is characterized by community level outbreaks in at least one other country in a different WHO region from Level 5.

Meanwhile, major health organisations, such as the WHO, the Department of Health (DoH) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) agree that handwashing and sanitiser gels are especially critical to minimize the spread of germs during times of illness outbreak. The recommendations are:
* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
* Throw the tissue in the bin after you use it.
* Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
* Sanitiser gels are also effective.
* Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
* If you get sick, DoH recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
* Catch it, Bin it & Kill it
